As Belgium’s oldest and largest arts centre, the Centre for Fine Arts aims to be a model for the European cultural centre of the 21st century. An all-embracing umbrella project, BOZAR combines the operations of a dynamic concert and exhibition venue with a multidisciplinary supporting role. Starting from that core artistic mission, BOZAR aims to develop into a stimulating forum for sociocultural developments.

Trumpeter Tamás Pálfalvi presents a recital of music as part of a tour of the large concert halls of Europe, uniquely for Brussels joining forces with German organist Christian Schmitt to explore music for trumpet from the Baroque to the contemporary. Known for his breath-taking, acrobatic virtuosity, Pálfalvi’s concert is part of the ‘Classique c’est Classe’ project, guaranteeing access to the concert to young audiences and the opportunity to meet the artist.

János Palojtay, pianist, is young, ambitious and bursting with talent. Born in Budapest, at the age of thirteen he was accepted by the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and has gone on to win five prizes, including second in the International Chopin Piano Competition in Budapest. Palojtay’s recital is presented as part of the Building Bridges series following his selection by Sir András Schiff as one of three musicians to play recitals in the 2017-2018 season of BOZAR Brussels.

Born in Budapest, at the age of thirteen he was accepted by the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and has gone on to win five prizes, including second in the International Chopin Piano Competition in Budapest. Christoph Sietzen, prize-winning percussionist and ECHO Rising Star, takes to the stage with his Wave Quartet to offer a varied programme of music from Bach and Xenakis to Piazzolla. The holder of a teaching post at Vienna’s University for Music and the Performing Arts since 2014, Christoph Sietzen has appeared at major concert halls in most of Europe’s major cities including Vienna, Berlin and Munich. Christoph Sietzen’s recital is included as part of the ‘La Musique, c’est Classe’ project, making concerts with high quality artists accessible to students aged 12 to 18 together with a pre-concert talk and an opportunity to meet the artist.

BOZAR invites singers to turn Brussels into a singing city with Singing Brussels, a celebration weekend with concerts and workshops open to all citizens including a massed choir that will form the highlight of the Singing Brussels Celebration Weekend. Made up of the public, amateur choristers, professional singers, choir leaders, music academy pupils, but also people who never sang before , 700 people will sing together accompanied by the ensemble Voces 8 and their vocal scholars (8 choral scholarships available to young singers looking to gain valuable experience and contacts within the industry at the start of their careers). Voces8’s Paul Smith will guide the public through workshops and concerts.

Since their formation in 2013 Quatuor Arod have been taking the chamber music world by storm, performing at major international festivals across Europe and now touring the top-tier concert halls as members of ECHO Rising Stars with mentoring from BOZAR’s Music Director. Quatuor Arod’s concert is part of the ‘Classique c’est Classe’ project, guaranteeing access to the concert to young audiences and the opportunity to meet the artist.
