The National Forum of Music in Wrocław is a state-of-the-art concert venue, which is the seat of the performing arts organisation established in 2014 after the merger of the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans and the Witold Lutosławski Philharmonic in Wrocław. One of the initiators of the creation of the National Forum of Music is Andrzej Kosendiak, currently serving as its director. The National Forum of Music aims to promote active participation in cultural life among people visiting Wrocław and Poland. The results of these intense activities are nine festivals and hundreds of concerts, which each year feature the most outstanding Polish and international artists, the venue itself becoming a space for meetings of representatives of various artistic disciplines, not only music.

23 year old Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniţă won first prize in the cello division of the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition and has already been recognized as one of the greatest cellists of his generation. As part of this performance of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with conductor Daniel Raiskin and the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, the dress rehearsal will also be attended by participants of the Open Music Academy programme.

Austrian mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert, graduate of the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and international prize-winner, performs Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade with the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra and artistic director Jarosław Thiel in this performance as part of Vivaldi Academy, the annual Academy of Early Music dedicated to one composer. As with all concerts in the series, this performance of L’Olimpiade will be preceded by a pre-concert talk from musicologist Maciej Prochaska.

Presented as part of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic’s concert series and three performances dedicated to Bernstein, the dress rehearsal for the performance will also be attended by participants on the Open Music Academy programme, giving them the opportunity to expand and deepen their knowledge of classical music.
